Coach or Critic?
What things you are saying to yourself?
You’re not smart enough
You’re not brave enough
You’re not good enough
You’re not thin enough
You’re not wealthy enough
You’re not pretty enough
These are the words of a critic. And that’s the point, they only speak negative words into your life. No helpful next steps or good ideas. And then these words play over and over in your head.
Just like an actor who reads the reviews on their work. There may be several good reviews but the words that are on repeat is that one negative comment.
What does the voice in your head sound like? A critic or a coach?
A Critic will tell you what you did wrong.
A Coach will ask you what you think could have been different
A Critic looks for things to be wrong.
A Coach looks for things that are being done well.
A Critic spends the least amount of time possible, comes in, looks, makes a comment and leaves.
A Coach is invested. They come alongside, roll up their sleeves, supports, encourages, helps you come up with a plan to achieve your goal
Coaches say things like:
You are talented
You are brave
You are strong
You are amazing
You’ve got this
You can do it
You are enough
Look at what you have already achieved
A Coach will support, challenge, and encourage you to be the best that you can be.
Are you speaking to yourself as a coach or a critic?
I know most of us tend to be the critic with ourselves. Stop! We encourage others so why not encourage yourself? But it’s so hard! Why is this so difficult for us?
Maybe you don’t know where to start.
Maybe you just don’t believe it yet.
If that is the case, I encourage you to talk to someone who believes in you. Find someone that will speak life into you. If there is no one close to you that will, then find a coach.
When we don’t hear positive things about our life, our dreams and even our efforts, we shrink and hide from the life that we can be living. Life is too short. Don’t live with the negative words and beliefs anymore.
It is time to stop being your worse critic and start living like a coach for yourself.
You can do this! I’m cheering for you!
